BearPup sometimes wants to open a file in one program, and other times open it in another. He asked the Result Line forum for an comfortable way to do this.
Windows uses a file's denotation–the part of the filename aft the period–to identify what program should open it. When you double-click, enjoin, a .docx file, Windows checks to see what application is associated with that extension (belik a word processor) and opens the file therein program.
You can change these associations yourself, and you can associate triple programs with a uniform extension. In fact, there's a good chance Windows has already done that for you.

To see what I'm talking most, in good order-click a file and select Open with. You'll get a cascading menu listing programs that Windows associates with the extension. From there, you can simply select the syllabu you want to run.
You can also change that extension's default curriculum (the cardinal that launches when you double-flick a file). In Windows XP, Vista, and 7, right-click the file out and select Open with>Choose default program. In the resulting panel, select a program, check Always use of goods and services the elite program to open this kindhearted of file, then OK.
But what if your desired program ISN't listed? From that same dialogue corner, click the Browse button, and then find and select the .exe data file for the desired program.
